Biography

Born in Guantánamo, Cuba on 1954. At the age of 15 won the 100 meters in Cuban School Games with 12 flat.

In 1971, in the PANAM Games, she obtained bronze in the 100 and silver in 4x100 meters relay. Amazed the world when, still a junior, she obtained bronze in the 100 meters during the XX Olympic Games in Munich.  The 11.18 seconds of the semifinals constituted a new Cuban, for CAC and world junior record. She was a member of the team that finished third.

In the CAC Games, she participated in two editions and always obtained significant achievements: in 1974 she came in second in the 100 meters and won the title in the 4x100; in 1978 was the track Queen when she won, with new Games records, 100 (11.17 in semifinals), 200 (23.01) and 4x100 (44.37).

Datos biográficos

Nació en Guantánamo, Cuba, en 1954. A los 15 años ganó los 100 metros en los Juegos Escolares con registro de 12.0 segundos.

En 1971, en los Juegos Panamericanos de Cali, obtuvo bronce en 100m y plata en el relevo 4x100m. Sorprendió al mundo cuando, todavía en edad juvenil, se alzó con el bronce en los 100 metros durante los XX Juegos Olímpicos de Munich 1972. Los 11.18 segundos de las semifinales constituyeron nuevo récord cubano, para CAC y mundial juvenil. Fue integrante del relevo que también finalizó tercero.

En Juegos CAC, participó en dos ediciones y siempre obtuvo logros significativos: en 1974 llegó segunda en la final de 100m y alcanzó el título del relevo 4x100m; en 1978 fue la reina del Atletismo, cuando venció con nuevo récord para los Juegos, en 100m (11.17 en las semifinales), 200m (23.01) y el relevo 4x100m (44.37).
