Biography

Born in Palma Soriano, Cuba, in 1963. The glory came first in the difficult challenge of the 400 meters and then with brilliance in the 800 meters. 

In 800 meters she won two world titles (1995 & 1997) and was two times Olympic medalist (bronze in 1992 and Silver in 1996). But if we also factor in her three victories in the World Cup at Barcelona 1989 (with the third best all time performance in the 800) and her five wins at the IAAF Athletic Grand Prix, then surely and with ought doubt she is the ultimate Cuban female athletic star.

In the regional circuit Ana also had extraordinary results: 7 medals in three PANAM Games (4-2-1); 10 medals in six CAC Games (9-1-0); 12 gold medals in six CAC Champs.  The Caribbean storm retired in 1998, after a fantastic and extensive sport career.

Datos biográficos

Nació en Palma Soriano, Cuba, en 1963. La gloria le llegó, primero en la dura contienda de los 400 metros y después, con mayor brillo, en las dos vueltas al óvalo.

En 800m fue dos veces titular mundial (1995 y 1997) y dos veces medallista olímpica (bronce en 1992 y plata en 1996). Si a esto unimos sus tres triunfos en la Copa del Mundo de Barcelona 1989 (con la tercera mejor marca de todos los tiempos en 800m) y sus 5 éxitos en los Gran Prix de Atletismo de la IAAF, entonces es sin duda alguna la gran estrella del Atletismo femenino cubano.

Dentro del contexto regional Ana fue también una fuera de serie. Tiene en su palmarés cifras envidiables: 7 medallas en tres Juegos PANAM (4 de oro, 2 de plata y 1 de bronce); 10 medallas en seis Juegos CAC (9-1-0); 12 medallas en seis Campeonatos CAC (12-0-0). La Tormenta del Caribe se retiró en 1998, después de una fantástica y extensa carrera atlética.
